Bengaluru (old name Bangalore), the vibrant capital of the southern state of Karnataka, is a city that perfectly blends history, nature, and modern innovation. Known as India’s “Silicon Valley,” it attracts visitors with its pleasant weather, rich culture, and dynamic urban life. Bengaluru is well-connected to the world by Air. Several International carriers fly to Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (Code: BLR; Airport Terminal 2) or via their respective hub or Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi (Code: DEL; Airport Terminal 3). Some of the big International carriers are as follows: (1) ANA (up to New Delhi), (2) Korea Air (upto New Delhi), (3) JAL, (4) Thai, (5) Singapore, (6) Malaysian Airlines, (7) Cathay Pacific. #1 to #2 have code-share Indian carriers (such as Air India, Indigo) which will fly you from New Delhi to Bengaluru domestic Terminal 1. #3 to #7 fly directly to Bengaluru.
You can reach your hotel or Indian Institute of Science (IISc) campus from the airport using Airport Cabs or App Taxis such as Ola Cabs or Uber Cabs. IISc/Hotels/Conference Venue is nearly 35 km from the Bengaluru Airport. Participants are encouraged to download the Ola/Uber Apps from their respective websites or Play Store/App Store before arrival in Bengaluru/India.
The airport cabs can be found just outside the Terminal Buildings. The App Taxis (Ola, Uber) have designated lanes/curbside pickups. In any case, please follow the navigation symbols to locate the taxi provider of your choice.

Bengaluru is also well connected by rail and inter-city/state buses. For trains, please alight at the Bengaluru City Railway Station (Code: SBC; Distance to IISc: ~7 km) or Yeshwantpur Railway Station (Code: YPR; Distance to IISc: <2 km) or Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVT) (Code: SMVB; Distance to IISc: 10.5 km). The IISc/Hotels/Conference Venue can be reached via transport arrangements.
Almost all long-distance buses arrive at the Kempegowda Bus Stand (also known as the Majestic Bus Stand). Also, there are several city buses from the Majestic Bus Stand to IISc. Few locals still refer to IISc, Bengaluru, as the “Tata Institute“.
Weather in January: The city experiences chilly mornings and evenings, while the afternoons can be slightly warmer. The temperature ranges from 15 to 25 °C. It is advisable to carry a wind-cheater/light woolens. There may be stray showers, so a small umbrella/rain jacket may come in handy.
